The Fire Is Taking Us All. What a strange release. These are more a series of concepts than anything else, or blueprints for things that would ultimately not be realized. The title comes from the Ben Levin song "Meow"—a song ultimately covered live for this EP. It was released on Valentines Day, 2022. Mentally, this was most likely put out to overcome the severe mental road block being faced creatively at the time. Repeated again for Doomed to Obscurity, this blockage would eventually go away with the release of Everything I Do Leads To Ruin almost a full year later.
01 — My Funny Valentine
Yes, that one. Whether through hubris or delusion, this certainly bold interpretation of the jazz classic demonstrates why maybe the idea of vocals in Trig music needed more time to marinate.
02 — Meow (Live)
The Ben Levin + Adam Neely song live. There weren't actually direct outputs for either keyboard at the time, so they're actually microphoned up. It's almost impossible to tell. Almost. This is such a fun song, and one to probably return to again.
03 — Disrepair Despair
A lot of ideas come naturally in terms of melody and simple chords, or complex chords and trying to fit a melody overtop of it. In trying to figure out where the brain might be going with it, playing in front of a piano with a tape recorder running has often proven to be a successful tool to remember ideas that work and tweak ones that don't. This is one example of that style of playing.
04 — Words of Empty Hollow Bleating
Where on earth did this come from? So edgy, so dark, so referential to a Residents song. Can scream like theres no tomorrow, though.
05 — The Goblin From Ipanema
More of a meme, than anything.
Hidden track: 06 — Elevator Music 6 / Twisty Thorny Garden (Live Demo)
This was in preparation for playing a show with the accordion, which is generally rare, and playing Trig Jegman music, which is even more rare. It ultimately went unplayed, but this practice recording exists as a reminder of how those sorts of songs would end up going if given the chance.
